One of the most thrilling moments for a writer is when they are invited to be involved in a book signing. This is often the stamp of approval several writers need, especially using their first book.

From the authors perspective this will be described as a gold mine in promotion. Bookstore owners will usually post notices stating the book signing; announcements will be also provided by many in regional newspapers that are made to increase the book signing. 

Bring your preferred pen and comfortable shoes. Then enjoy your second in the sun. 

Nevertheless, until you are a well-established writer there are a few things that you should not expect from the book signing.

The truth is a book signing will probably create a family, few friends and an assortment of interested others who have arrived at have you personally sign their obtained copy of the book. 

So, if that's all there's to it, why do it? 

Well, largely because as a writer you should think about your self a 'word farmer.' What I mean by that is a book signing can be quite a wonderful time to visit with the public about your book, its material and why you chose to write the book and be ready to wait to see the seed sprout. 

In many cases, good contacts with those who do not purchase your book may ultimately find these patrons returning to purchase the book at a later time. 

A book signing isn't about 'hawking your items' it's about good will and being an ambassador for the art of writing. 

with good grace and with an eye toward the long-term goals you've written down if you've been invited to participate in a book signing do. A book signing is simply one little step toward your final destination, enjoy the step, but do not make a lot of fuss over it. 

There is some type of confidence in most writer, but a book signing isn't a great place to wear a prima donna character. Remember the folks who come to see you want to leave with something positive to consider - not an author to avoid.
