Nurses with an interest for both er trauma and courtroom drama might want to pursue a nursing degree in legal nurse consulting. Legal nurse consultants use their health know-how in conjunction by having an interest in the legal system to truly have a rewarding career in this profession. Legal nurse consultants are commonly called by defense attorneys and prosecutors due to their forensic or medicinal understanding to simply help determine hard criminal or civil cases. More commonly, legal nurse consultants talk to attorneys and others in the legal field on medical malpractice, accidental injury, personnel' compensation and other healthcare-related circumstances. These legal authorities have the effect of finding clients, opinions medical records, experiments and summarizes medical literature, helps consider debts and problems, helps with depositions, prepares displays, and recognizes and retains expert witnesses. Legal nurse consultants are registered nurses who've previously worked in emergency rooms, or in other professions, who then accept aimed training at legal nurse consulting schools. These schools offer on-campus or on the web nursing level training in forensic science, accidental injury cases, legal ethics, and legal writing to call a few. There are also specific classes in legal issues about back pain, car crashes injury, medical malpractice, and product liability. Certified legal nurse consultants are often contracted to work with corporate attorneys and private attorneys. But, many find work outside the courtroom. Positions are taken by some with hospitals, insurance providers, and government agencies. Many are used to simply help provide quality assurance at chemical companies and pharmaceutical firms. About 50% of all legal nurse consultants work on staff at law firms, insurance providers and other organizations, and their earnings are only about exactly like those of hospital nursing administrators, who make about $80,000, in accordance with a 2004 Nursing Management salary survey. The other half of legal nurse consultants work alone and earn $100 to $150 one hour or more, Jobs in the profession are likely to increase through the next ten years as more and more businesses present drugs and devices that are federally permitted, or reviewed in the courtroom or by government agencies. While formal training in legal nurse consulting isn't needed to practice, training and educational programs are available at universities, community schools, and other private and public organizations.
