It's proven itself again and again although its potential for repairing damaged bones and slowing the progression of arthritis. Since glucosamine works so well for human arthritis, it is natural to ask: Think about dog arthritis? Can it be safe? Is it effective? The answer: Yes, i... In 1999, glucosamine was the top-selling health supplement in the United States, with annual sales folks $288 million. It has become an immensely popular supplement around the globe. It has proven it self again and again although its prospect of repairing broken joints and delaying the development of arthritis. Since glucosamine works so well for individual arthritis, it's natural to ask: What about dog arthritis? Can it be safe? Is it effective? The answer: Yes, it seems to be equally effective and safe. The key safety concern comes from animal studies where huge amounts of glucosamine got to other animals and rats intravenously, for short intervals. Under these extreme and common conditions, glucosamine tended to diminish insulin levels and/or induce insulin resistance. A similar thing happened, when researchers tried individuals with considerable amounts of intravenous glucosamine. Hence a problem arose that glucosamine might lead to diabetes or make diabetes worse. Normal therapeutic doses of glucosamine given orally have never been shown to have a detrimental effect on insulin levels, insulin resistance or blood sugar levels. Even yet in diabetic subjects and type 2 diabetic people, normal therapeutic doses of glucosamine taken orally have been proven to have no significant influence on insulin, insulin resistance or glucose levels. Cosequin could be the manufacturer of a chondroitin and glucosamine formulation built to treat dog arthritis, cat arthritis and horse arthritis. It is taken orally and seems to have a fantastic safety record. Cosequin has been seen to have exceptional safety profile. Safely studies, Cosequin given at twice label recommended levels for thirty days in healthier dogs had no negative effects on blood glucose levels. No clinically significant results were seen on any biochemical parameter in these studies. Although number change in blood sugar control will be predicted for a diabetic dog, much like the addition of anything new to a diabetics regimen, it is recommended to monitor carefully.
