新页面

Over seven days before an important problem reach the main Gulf Coast of the Usa. I've been reflecting on the disaster, the response to it, and what lessons we could bring about leadership.

Don't worry that is not a political piece...

Training 1 - Leadership is essential. Much has been made as they may have been that areas were not as organized. Leaders could have changed that. Many have stated that the original reaction (at all levels from local to the Federal Government) wasn't perfect. Control may improve that in the future.

Lesson 2 - Leadership will come from everyone. Not just people that have a title, but everyone can lead. 1000s of tales of heroism, and leadership are taken from these events. Not totally all of these are stories of men and women wearing a badge or perhaps a formal title. Our leadership abilities can be all used by us.

Lesson 3 - Remarkable leaders realize that guilt takes an excessive amount of energy. In recent days it seems that the target of the "story" of the disaster has improved from the disaster to who did what wrong and how it may have been done better. Let us be clear. This is a disaster of enormous proportions. Could things have gone better? Needless to say. Was the way things were handled a travesty? No. Can the problem be solved by blaming and pointing fingers at others today? Definitely not. Every ounce of energy being spent in guilt and "Monday Morning Quarterbacking" can be an ounce of energy better spent on meeting the great issues that still exist. That leads to...

Lesson 4 - Remarkable leaders give attention to remedies, not problems. As opposed to looking at what's improper, they look at creative approaches to ensure it is better. Impressive leaders know that once they are point a at others, four times as many hands are pointing back at them. They take responsibility, and give attention to solutions.

Training 5 - Remarkable leaders know when to behave and when to reflect. Will there be a time to check back and study on the failures in processes, methods, and tasks used during the time immediately following the storm? Yes. Maybe there is individuals who may need to be held accountable for several of those choices and actions? Of course. I simply do not think that time is now. A study and evaluation will be commissioned, I'm sure, as it must be. Keep that understanding for then.

My important thing? I really believe that right now, leaders of all kinds, from township supervisors, to mayors, to convey legislators, to those in government agencies, to Congress, to the White House, need to look forward and come together to meet up the many problems we will face for weeks. There's a time for action and a time for showing. Now could be the time to appear forward.

In your own leadership development keep this in mind. Remind your self of those lessons. [http://www.linkedin.com/groups/LIFE-Business-4584457 the guide to the life business]
