Dale's organization has a six principal approach to management consulting, and it is super powerful. To be honest, I did not understand a lot about what consultants truly did before our conversation, but I figured a chance conversation couldn't hurt. I have my own exercise business and would not turn down guidance on how best to grow it and make it more rewarding.

The number one thing we spoke about, first of all, was integrity. Without integrity, you've got nothing. Warren Buffet said something along the lines of it taking a life to develop a reputation and 5 minutes to ruin yet, and he couldn't be more appropriate. Consulting is a results driven company, overpromising and under-delivering can leave your business with an unhappy future.

The final thing we spoke about was accountability. Accountability, much like ethics is incredibly significant in the sector. You have to become a guy (or woman) of your word. If you say you're planning to do something and you don't, you have not done anything. How you sleep, eat and breathe, you always ought to be liable to something or to someone.

We spoke about preparedness and it's value but in all honesty I felt this one was a given. Being prepared is clever, knowing your facts, about your client and the research is great. It weighed down your mind whenever you need to be ready to flex and turn to client needs.

Communication was also brought up, but like preparedness I took this one for allowed. Without communication there isn't actually a lot. Effective communication is of course better then unsuccessful, but bottom line it's a given as well.

Optimism was Dale's second key pointer. When you walk into some businesses who desire development there is an atmosphere in the air. Folks are overcome, they have a reproachful mind-set and it appears impossible to actually change that. You're the origin of the change, in other words, as it turns out, you're the change you would like to see. You have to walk into a company and breathe life into it.

The next one (courage) was a little odd. I wasn't quite sure why nerve would be part of a consulting strategy. I realized that any consultant who is advising and implementing change is going out on a limb and staking his or her name on something that while potentially successful, has absolutely no guarantee of working when I probed about the bravery portion.

I was totally impressed and almost shocked by the simplicity of the pillars after our conversation ended. It didn't matter the business or size, they were universal. I immediately some areas in my own business that I could enhance. Dale Buczkowski had given some free guidance to me and I was definitely going to implement it.
