Recently, the South by Southwest music, picture, and fun celebration wrapped up after another successful year in Austin. It's become my tradition to have a break from my teaching job to work for the celebration at one of the music venues, because it falls during spring break week. It's always an interesting and enjoyable change of pace for me personally, and my students obtain a real kick out of believing their teacher operating at a club and reveling along with the music lovers and club hoppers.This year was no different.

The SXSW music celebration brings over 1400 bands and significantly more than 5000 music business professionals to Austin, and that number doesnt also take into consideration those thousands attending the film and active conventions which run concurrently beneath the SXSW banner, and Austin embraces all of them with open arms. All things considered, the celebration pumps a big $30 million into the local economy, and every year, the crowds grow. At least at now of year, Austin truly deserves, and shows its status because The Live Music Capital of the Entire World.

Austin boasts more live music venues per capita than any city in the U.S., and groups of all sizes, including a, play host to artists from all over the world during the four-night music festival. The party officially begins on Wednesday evening with Austins own version of the Grammys, The Austin Music Awards. Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel, was a big winner, and Pete Townshend formerly of The Who, took the point with other Brit, Ian McLagan, now a precious Austin musician.

At my club on 6th Street, we exhibited groups from Ny, Chicago, Bay Area, and Amsterdam, and celebrated St. Patricks Time with Irish Music Night on Sunday. Without exception, the members of the bands and their entourages were excited about playing Austin and having the possibility to be discovered by a producer or promoter, or found by a record label. One group member excitedly informed me that after their show, they were acknowledged to collaborate on a significant movie soundtrack! At the very least throughout SXSW, Austin could be the city where dreams really can come true.

Up and down the 6th Street entertainment area and beyond, report professionals tested their schedules and rushed from club to club, munching chopped barbeque sandwiches and checking out the artists, who ranged from acoustic singer/songwriters to outrageously-dressed and spikey-coiffed punks and rock screamers clad in their certain black garb.

Early one night, a nicely dressed middle-aged couple approached if they could buy a ticket for the show me to ask. You must have a kid doing, I smiled, simply because they were not at all your normal club hopper. Normally, their son was playing, and the proud parents had followed him to Austin for a mini-vacation and the display completely from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. That day had been wonderful, with the temperature hovering near 80, and we spoke for a while about their visit, and what they had seen and done whilst in Austin. The couple was joyful inside their praise and assured that next year they would be right back for an extended vacation and would certainly be bringing friends.

Later that night, a woman from the UK dropped in to thank me for suggesting Marias Taco Express, certainly one of my favorite places, and asked me to an private party in a hotel penthouse nearby. I thanked her, but had to fall, because this wonderful carriage that is SXSW has to reverse right into a pumpkin by Monday morning, and I had some lesson plans to create.
