Recently, the South by Southwest music, video, and involved festival wrapped up after yet another successful year in Austin. Because it comes during spring break week, it has become my history to take a break from my teaching job to benefit the festival at one of many music sites. It is always a fascinating and enjoyable change of speed for me personally, and my students get a real kick out of imagining their teacher working at a club and reveling combined with music lovers and club hoppers.This year was no different.

The SXSW music celebration brings over 1400 artists and more than 5000 music industry experts to Austin, and that number doesnt even take into consideration these thousands joining the picture and fun conventions which run concurrently under the SXSW advertising, and Austin embraces them all with open arms. All things considered, the event pumps a big $30 million in to the local economy, and every year, the crowds increase. At least at now of year, Austin rightfully deserves, and proves its position because The Live Music Capital of the World.

Live music venues per capita are boasted more by austin than any town in the U.S., and host is played by clubs of all sizes, including a church to artists from all over the world through the four-night music festival. The party officially kicks off on Wednesday evening with Austins own version of the Grammys, The Austin Music Awards. Jimmy Benson of Asleep at the Wheel, was a big success, and Pete Townshend formerly of The the stage was taken by Who, with fellow Brit, Ian McLagan, now a beloved Austin artist.

At my club on 6th Street, we showcased groups from Nyc, Chicago, Bay Area, and Amsterdam, and famous St. Patricks Day with Irish Music Night on Sunday. Without exception, the members of the their entourages and bands were excited about playing Austin and getting the possibility to be discovered by a maker or promoter, or picked up by accurate documentation label. One band member excitedly informed me that after their show, they certainly were approached to collaborate on a significant motion picture soundtrack! At least during SXSW, Austin may be the city where dreams can really be realized.

Up and down the 6th Street entertainment district and beyond, record professionals tested their times and rushed from club to club, munching sliced barbeque sandwiches and looking at the artists, who ranged from traditional singer/songwriters to outrageously-dressed and spikey-coiffed punks and rock screamers dressed within their inevitable black garb.

Early one evening, a properly dressed middle-aged couple approached me to ask if they could obtain a ticket for the show. You must have a son or daughter performing, I smiled, since they were definitely not your normal team hopper. Obviously, their daughter was playing, and he had been followed by the proud parents to Austin for a mini-vacation and the present all the way from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. That time had been wonderful, with the temperature hovering near 80, and we chatted for a what they had seen, and while about their visit and done whilst in Austin. A girl from the UK dropped in to thank me for proposing Marias Taco Express, one of the best haunts, and invited me to an private celebration in a hotel penthouse regional, later that night. Because this golden carriage that is SXSW has to reverse right into a pumpkin by Monday morning, I thanked her, but had to decline, and I'd some lesson plans to write.
