So how exactly does a marketing plan relate solely to an organization's communications plan? What are the differences? Is the marketing plan just one aspect of the communications plan? Should one consider combining them into a single file?

A communications plan is really a SECTION of your marketing plan. A communications plan is just a concentrated strategy you use to obtain the term out about your company, product or service.

You might use many different communications ways such as for instance public relations, advertising and speaking engagements. Yes, it does determine who you're speaking to and what your message is, and where and how you will get that message out, and usually has goals or objectives you're attempting to accomplish.

Here's the difference between the two

A marketing plan begins by developing a strong, ideal marketing foundation for your communications plan. It addresses the goals and objectives for your organization, not only for your communications activities.

It addresses how you package, value and sell your service or product, not just how you talk about it. It will take into account your opponents and can help you produce a unique trying to sell proposition to ensure your service or product is uniquely situated in the minds of your clients and prospects.

And it ensures you have ways to monitor all your marketing activities to produce the best possible success for the company.

You need a marketing program FIRST

The messaging part of your marketing plan is where your communications plan comes in. After you've made a solid, strategic marketing foundation (which you will do included in creating a marketing plan) you can establish a note strategy and tactics - this is your communications plan. And it most definitely can be a area of the same report.

When I write marketing strategies for clients, the communications plan is the main marketing plan. The only real time it is not, is when the customer has written their own business and marketing plans. In these cases, I make sure I either get to evaluate their programs or that I completely understand their business objectives and strategy so I could produce a marketing communications want to support them.

The success of one's communications strategy depends on it

If all you have is just a communications plan, you are missing an important element of what it will take to make a business successful. A marketing strategy is essential.
