Nominated for 84 Emmys and 13 Golden Globes, including 5 for Best TV Series - Drama in its first five decades, NYPD Blue is one of the best primary time dramas in television history. It is also one of many most controversial as well and discussed. Ahead of its series elite in Fall 1993, NYPD Blue found itself embroiled in a national controversy surrounding appropriate TELEVISION programming and calls for government censorship. Their opening tagline "This police episode includes adult language and scenes with partial nudity. Viewer discretion is advised," caused an a serious stir before the first episode had been even seen by the public. Family rights teams maligned the ABC network for airing the show, nevertheless when NYPD Blue turned out to be a slight show by conventional standards, the massive publicity only served to instantly propel the police drama to the most truly effective of the Nielsen ratings, where it lived out 12 successful months

NYPD Blue follows the exploits of a New York City Police Department device while they handle the high-stress trials and travails indicative of the world's most challenging police work. Through the show's 12 seasons, a number of people moved in and out of the section, but Det. Andy Sipowicz (Dennis Franz) was the main one constant. The brash, steel-gut manner of Sipowicz established the tone for the show, and many episodes revolve around Sipowicz and his various partners (whose mild-mannered temperaments help ease his oftentimes brash techniques). Det. John Kelley (David Caruso) was the very first of those partners, followed by Bobby Simone (Jimmy Smits) The invention of Steven Bochco (former author for Columbo and inventor of such strike line as Hill Street Blues, L.A. Legislation, and Doogie Howser, M.D.), NYPD Blue raised the bar for prime-time police dramas, and alongside contemporary look Law & Order, the show defined the genre during the decade of the 1990s

The NYPD Blue DVD includes a number of dramatic episodes such as the series premiere in which Det. Sipowicz is raised before Internal Affairs due to harassing conduct toward Alfonse Giardella. Meanwhile, his wife is pushing to finalize their divorce, but shot is got by Sipowicz by Giardella in the act. Today, Det. Kelley should apply pressure to the area mafia to help him get the perpetrator Other significant episodes from Season 1 contain "Oscar, Meyer, Weiner" in which Sipowicz and Kelley investigate the murder of a whole family of wealthy elites as well as a Academy Award, and "Serge the Concierge" in which the two detectives find a body in a and trace it back again to a hatched by a hotel owner and her assistant worker
