Within our past articles I mentioned all of the measures needed to precisely replace your old wood sash windows with energy efficient vinyl windows. I told you how to measure for the brand new windows. Then we discussed removing the wood sashes and parting bead. Eventually, I told you how to deploy, seal, and trim the plastic replacement windows. But, imagine if those old windows in your home are constructed of metal in place of wood? Could be the process the exact same? No, it is not the same at all. So, the next few articles are likely to explain the differences between changing wood windows versus metal windows.

When discussing the correct framework design for changing the wood sash windows, I explained the difference between new development frames versus alternative frames. There is another option we've to consider regarding figure model, when changing metal windows. It's called a "retrofit" body. Let us go over each body type. Let us not even go there! You would have to take away the stones, then re-install them when done.

Believe me, that you don't want to replace your old metal windows with new building plastic windows. You wish to use either the replacement frame like the one used to replace the wood sash windows, or something called a frame, that's common in the west where stucco is a common exterior. The proper measuring procedure will be discussed by this article, since the procedure for measuring is the same regardless of the frame design chosen, and future articles will explain the difference in the installation process for replacement versus retrofit.

You will see three split "legs" that form two pockets, if you look at the part of the metal frame that encircles the window opening in to your surrounding walls. Run your tape measure from the widest leg on the left to the widest leg on the right, when measuring the size. This should function as narrowest measurement. Then, subtract 3/8" from that dimension. This is the width of the replacement window. Gauge the height exactly the same way. When measuring the height, measure as close to the center of the screen as you can. Because the leading wood header tends to sag over time, making the center of the beginning the narrowest, this is particularly crucial on windows larger than six feet. Like you did on the thickness you do not need certainly to deduct 3/8" from the peak. 1/4" is okay. They're the dimensions you employ when purchasing your plastic window. When you have any picture windows( windows with out a vent section), there will only be two legs and one pocket. The same way is still measured by you.
