Harad is just a land in the fictional world of Middle Earth that created the stage for the book (and current movies) Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien.Harad, Elvish for "South", is just a common expression for the countries in the far south of Middle Earth, if Middle Earth might be believed to represent Europe then Harad could correspondingly represent Africa. Harad wasn't mapped by Tolkien and is for that reason of unknown size and the countries themselves feature little in the books. However it is believed that Harad includes a more substantial place than some of the other kingdoms in Middle Earth. The only location mentioned in the Lord of the Rings publications is Umbar, a coastal town in northwestern Harad from which corsairs (pirates) strike the coasts of Gondor.Although Tolkien himself never mapped Harad, a general understanding of the areas of Harad can be used his works. The countries of the North, while usually drier then the greener northern realms, may be wonderful enough to challenge the most verdant realms of the world. In the southern shirt co areas, also known as Far Harad, the land is covered by either marketplace and desert. The Haradrim, also known as Southrons, are the folks of Harad, they fought on the part of Sauron in the War of the Ring, however it is unclear whether they were really bad or if they were deceived into fighting for the dark lord. In as heavily armoured players in vaguely Middle Eastern-looking costumes the next Lord of the Rings movie (Reunite of the King) the Haradrim appear in the Battle of Pelennor Fields. In battle, the Haradrim are famous for riding the enormous Mumakil or Oliphaunts, which are significant dinosaurs or elephant-like monsters native to Harad. From a physical point of view Harad's tribes can be split into those from Near and Far Harad, though it is a generalization for there are several tribes of Haradrim, often mutually hostile. Those of Near Harad are normally brown-skinned, with black hair and black eyes, whereas the folks of Far Harad have black skin.Chief one of the enemies of the Haradrim could be the northern realm of Gondor and they have been much given to warring with their northern neighbor over several generations. Such fights are always ferociously fought on both sides and usually end in stalemate - the shield and skill of Gondor coordinated by the large volume of warriors the Haradrim would bring to bear.
