The Greyhound is a medium to medium/large dog breed that's light and graceful. They weigh between 60-70 pounds and achieve 26 inches to 30 inches tall. They're a breed that loves family companionship and loves program. They like to eat at the same time daily, sleep at the same time and walk/exercise at the same time.

Recognized by the AKC, the greyhound is recognized in just about any coat color or color combination. Their coat is firm, short, easy and right. They are quite simple groom, only requiring an occasional cleaning and only needing a dry wash when necessary.

They are sensitive and painful to cold weather and need to wear a sweater when they are outside in the wintertime to keep them warm.

Calm inside and rather high power outside, the Greyhound could make a great house dog provided they get regular outside exercise and walks. They are sweet and docile in nature and usually display a little of a fearful side. Due to their fearful side, they do best with older or well behaved children. Early socialization is best for other dogs and small pets. Despite socialization they could chase small, non-canine animals, especially cats. Consistent training is important, but Greyhounds are simple enough to train. They are not good watch dogs for their calm, docile character.

Dating back over 2000 years, the Greyhound started in the Middle East. Many sources declare that Egypt is their country of origin. Their strength, speed and agility made them excellent hunters and they were originally mainly utilized to look. They're mainly used in dog racing today. They're usually damaged, when they cannot race. Luckily, Greyhound relief companies have been working hard to safeguard retired racing Greyhounds and they've had success with their adoption plans.

If you're looking for a calm, caring type that will enjoy some outside workout but will equally enjoy enjoyable indoors with you, the Greyhound could be exactly what you are looking for.
