Therefore it is with duty. The idea of duty varies much among different countries. In a single country, if a man does not do certain things, people will say he's acted wrongly; while if he does these very things in another country, people will say that he did not act correctly -- and yet we realize that there must be some common commercial call of duty cheats concept of responsibility. In exactly the same way, one class of society thinks that particular things are among its responsibility, while if it had to do those things yet another class thinks quite the opposite and will be horrified.

Two ways are left available to us -- the way of the ignorant, who think that there is only 1 way to reality and that all the rest are incorrect, and the way of the wise, who admit that, according to our mental constitution or different planes of existence by which we are,duty and morality may vary. The important thing is to know that you can find gradations of duty and of morality -- that the duty of one state of life,in one set of circumstances, won't and can't be that of another.

To illustrate: All great teachers have shown, "Resist perhaps not evil," that low - resistance is the highest moral ideal. We all know that, if a certain quantity of us attempted to put that belief fully in to practice, the whole social fabric would fall to pieces, the wicked would simply take control of our houses and our lives, and would do what they just as in us. It'd result in disaster, ev

en when only one day of such low - weight were practised. However, intuitively, inside our heart of hearts we have the truth of the training "Resist not evil." This seems to us to be the greatest ideal; yet to instruct this doctrine only would be equal to condemning a huge percentage of humanity. 

Not only so, it'd be making men feel that they certainly were always doing wrong, and cause in them scruples of conscience in all their actions; it would damage them, and than any weakness would that continuous self - disapproval would breed more vice. To the person who has started to hate himself the entrance to degeneration has already opened; and the exact same is true of a nation.
