Ancient Indian Education and Ethics - Its Significance Today

Time has arrived at get back to high level of education that may produce thinkers.Basis of Indian education has been knowledge and understanding. It became only memorizing after numerous invasions. Asia was probably the most affluent nation on earth in the historical times. It thought in exploitation of the natural resources exactly that much which was required. Excessive exploitation of natural resources was not done nor was it encouraged. In India people worship nature: flowers, wind, fire, water, sun and the like. This demonstrates on our Planet the respect it gave to all the existing plants and animals. In Hindu religion it's stated that over exploitation of the ocean, must be prevented and that's known as "samudramanthan." Giving education was considered as royal job, a serious responsibility of the instructor and remuneration should not be expected by him from the students. A teacher used to be dedicated and did just take teaching as a mission.Academics also served to reform the societies. The contribution could be recalled by us created by the great economics instructor of Takshashila and Nalanda Universities; Chankaya who recognized that for economic development in the area it had been required to make an undivided nation: India. People in education get the best position in society called Brahmins. In ancient times one had to work very difficult becoming a Brahmin. In those times it was not by birth. One had to take that occupation then only he could become a Brahmin. Money couldn't be taken by the Brahmin to give education. Education in ancient India was free to all. Education would be funded by the kingdom. Asia is a nation which has minimal literacy but high education. People learn about life, character, crops, and its significance and therefore on.Indian education system was on the basis of the principle of complete development; mind and emotions. Indian system paid great importance to development of ethical only and for that reason, presented brahmacharya system. In those times students is supposed to learn only. Indian program gave emphasis to learning through training. It was certainly centered on religious acts and religious techniques. One must appreciate that faith in days past was just a life-style hence, no conflict with education. One had to follow a strict life style which one has to still follow. Athavaveda a historical book talks in detail the education part; the system and methods to be followed.It but, had some defects. Education was on a those that deserve and wasn't open to all. Next it was Guru (instructor) centric i.e. for every point one had to be determined by the wizard and his knowledge was considered great. Buddhism democratized the education by enabling all to examine. That served to spread education and institutionalise education by developing Universities. Buddhism didn't deviate from Hindu method of providing education but caused it to be broad-based. Here again teachers and students had to be religious people and had to follow along with a rigid rules. Even here it was not absolutely lacking previous Guru System. Perhaps Buddha explained "Buddham saranam gachchami" (Come to Buddha to have enlightenment). Actually, in historic times the truly amazing saints did research on their own and developed body of knowledge that was contrary to what Buddha said. Nevertheless, he pushed the system of focus of understanding in few hand. This may have diluted the quality of information but this improved the understanding of the people in general in India.This also produced a relationship among people of India which can be keeping this country together. This is the secret of unity in variety of India. A various state became one population having same rule of life that's obtaining mokshya (eternal bliss ).Indians always paid great value to education which may improve the moral standard of the population. Durability of ancient Indian education system was proven again and again. Because the early stages of foreign invasion India lost all its material wealth however, not the Indian ethos and brilliance of our (Arian) tradition and believes. It was possible due to the basis of Indian education program. As I feel were:1 the others speak about Ethics but Indians practice through education.Aims of the Indian System. The immediate purpose was to make so that they could follow the duties of all other Ashrams of life faithfully.2 all students fit to become useful members of the community. The goal was to make organization and good character through ethical values.3. The Indian education system made a difference between mere scholarship and whole education.4. The aim of the machine was development of full personality.5. Next was inculcation of social and social tasks. Asia in historical time was a society primarily controlled by social regulations which gave us our power. It's the sole community where in fact the social system of conducting business was so powerful and independent that people survived in spite of foreign invasion and rule.6. Indian education offered social effectiveness and happiness. We all know in our ancient books you can find types of people helping the society.7. Historic education program shown maintenance of national heritage and culture hence we still have a culture not the same as other organizations. This still remains our energy and I will be able to re-establish our national pride some day. It has given us the unbroken continuity because the ancient times. It is the potency of our ancient education as a nation.Then the issue is where did we fail that we survive? For it had to be protected from foreign influence our education system got enveloped in a shell. That severe massacre of our culture by foreign intruders made us exceedingly introvert. The openness of our society was lost and formal education became the domain of few. That destroyed the power of our academia to expand understanding. The burning of our established centers of education created people frightened. The mass lost the desire to understand because home-grown knowledge was not valued by them. People drifted from formal learning procedure and way was given by this to a variety of raw procedures inside our society. Indian culture lost the fundamental ability to take and acquire advantage of knowledge. The body of understanding turned foreign that has been a rare commodity just the rich can afford. The British rule took benefit of this gap and presented something to accommodate requirements of the Empire. The device didn't promote beyond burning. This practice continues to be common in Indian education system. It discourages boys from having their own separate opinion on a subject.We quit learning and all element of faith our old texts were being considered. Our education system should be re-designed by us integrating the primary ethos of our time- examined old system with new understanding. We must reintroduce the thought of self-control that has been there within our community. This may make our people to appreciate significance of moral standards. Yes, let's return to the partnership that existed between education and culture described by our age-old examined program. The grade of some of the books written 2500 years ago or beyond is really high that individuals of today can't produce. That was the amount of our original research why and once we lost that capacity is a matter of concern nevertheless. As we need it; the sum total development we must revive that and repair the education program in India. It shan't assist in future and copying of the west has not helped this has to be acknowledged once for many. We believe in the beliefs of the culture and that may maybe not be sacrificed at any price.
