Are You a Mind Surgeon Or even a Plastic Surgeon?
Many companies are still struggling with the effects of the economic depression, worldwide economic crisis... I think we're actually allowed to say "recession" now, aren't we?Most of it is bad news, obviously, since bad news sells. But some of it's great news, indicating that some people are doing well despite the recession.I have got a different view.It isn't about doing well despite a downturn. It is not about being more strong, or having more in reserve, or driving through the tough times, or "recession proofing" your business.Do not downturn evidence your organization. That's for big organizations, who are major, slow, tired and struggle to continue. Recessions bring great opportunities for small enterprises, who are wise, nimble, agile and could adapt. It is survival of the financial fittest. Here's the important thing question: What difficulty are you solving?Recessions aren't harmful to every one. Yes, a lot of people are in pain, but you will do when there's a disease outbreak well.Doctors are in high demand, if you might help ease that pain. Firefighters are in sought after when there is a bushfire. Companies, professionals, professionals and thought leaders who truly understand their clients' problems are in high demand in a I giggle when I hear colleagues say, "I will not take part in this recession." That's like a saying, "I won't take part in this bushfire!" )So what is changed? The harmony has changed. In difficult times, people are careful, careful, defensive and spend their money on safety, safety, producing certainty and recovery their pain.In good times, people have money to spend, and spend it on extension, luxuries, nice-to-haves and spoiling themselves. So are you a surgeon or a cosmetic surgery? They equally solve problems, but they're different problems, and they suit different times.Plastic surgeons prosper in good times, when people need to feel good and could afford to cover it.Brain surgery, on the other hand, is not usually a discretionary spend. You get it when you need it, and if you need it you'll pay for it. And you'll pay for the top (I wonder if anybody's ever said, "Help - get me the cheapest mind surgeon you can find!" ).If you are performing plastic surgery - for example, a light, deep, fun service or product - think carefully about whether this is lasting today. It's still as good as it ever was, but is it still as valuable? Now is the full time to be always a brain surgeon. Comprehend your value, get good - really good - at your craft, and use it with laser emphasis to your customers' issues.
