Development of Street Signage - From Freeways to Electronic Signage Billboards

Indicators are every-where. From those that give us instructions, to those that there to advise us of danger we should encounter a huge selection of signs each day as we travel around-the country's road networks.Billboards, hoardings and even outdoor electronic signage solutions are now an everyday function along roadsides but road signs have been through an original history and the people we see o-n our motorways and trunk roads weren't always that way.Before the 1960's there was no particular format for road signs. Pace limit signals and route signs may, and frequently were, different on one stretch of road to another, as were the relaxation of the signage along our highways.However, once the fist freeways opened it was soon realised that a typical format for road signs was expected and the design and font system (Transport font) that are so familiar to us today were created to create unity with the different signs up and down the country.Now uniformity in our signage system is commonplace but our roadsides are now awash with a lot more methods of signage and passing of information.Outdoor digital signage is one of the latest improvements in the signage business. These roadside hoardings and signs that are now starting to shoot up at bus stops and along curb sides are based on the same technology that our TV's at property perform in.Many of these outside electronic signage programs are secured by waterproof LCD enclosures to make sure the sensitive technology inside the system don't get ruined in the elements.And now, thanks to this growing technology, the roadsides of our motorways are starting to improve - just as they did when the first motorways caused the changing of the signage - getting our highways right into the twenty first century.
