Location Based Service and all you have to know on the subject
It seems that more and more location-based services are surfacing, jumping on the Social Media bandwagon.
Today, I'm no old fuddy-duddy, and I will see how many of these services may be of good use to persons and perhaps to businesses. I really do nevertheless, have enormous problems over the privacy and security of these services.
Firstly, you can find the actual protection features. The information about where you are could be used to a target you privately for harmful intent. This will vary from mugging you as you leave a venue to burgling your property while you're out.
Then you will find the problems of who has access to these records. There are laws and various rules which apply to data protection but under what authority are you reports being monitored? Who both from an organization point of view and an employment point of view has use of the information? Are your locations, actions and behaviors being witnessed, supervised and evaluated for other factors - many of these may be simply for targeted advertising but others could possibly be for more sinister purposes?
I've been important before of individuals who post on Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites with a lot of detail about what they are doing and where they're. Today we have solutions created specifically to create and obtain these records, and we are registering to them en-masse. We're allowing the others to track our every action because we've think we are being friendly and it will make us very popular.
The easy fact of the matter is that people will leave themselves open because there are multiple, complex choices on the security settings site - will every consumer undoubtedly comprehend them? And still another problem is how will you know all your "friends" would be the only people viewing your information? It might be that their accounts have been compromised or compromised, or indeed that you have erroneously added a "friend" who is not who you believe it is.
My viewpoint is this - whatever you share on the web, even only to "friends" you must look into it public domain and apparent to everyone, i.e. similar internet site.
Do not tell anyone anything, say you're or have been anywhere, or opine about anything you would not want your supervisor, your mother, your partner, future businesses, and associates (and mothers?) or the rest of the world to understand!
