Recently, the South by Southwest music, movie, and online event covered up after yet another successful year in Austin. It's become my tradition to take a break from my teaching work to work with the celebration at one of many music sites, because it falls during spring break week. It's always an interesting and enjoyable change of speed for me, and my students obtain a real kick out of believing their instructor working at a club and reveling along with the music lovers and club hoppers.This year was no different.

The SXSW music celebration draws over 1400 rings and more than 5000 music industry specialists to Austin, and that number doesnt even consider these thousands joining the film and online conventions which run simultaneously under the SXSW banner, and Austin embraces them with open arms. In the end, the event pumps a hefty $30 million in to the regional economy, and every year, the crowds grow. At least at now of year, Austin rightfully deserves, and shows its status since The Live Music Capital of the World.

Austin boasts more live music venues per capita than any town in the U.S., and host is played by clubs of all sizes, including a church to groups from all over the world during the four-night music festival. The party officially kicks off on Wednesday evening with Austins own version of the Grammys, The Austin Music Awards. Jimmy Benson of Asleep at the Wheel, was a big winner, and Pete Townshend formerly of The Who, took the point with other Brit, Ian McLagan, now a precious Austin performer.

At my club on 6th Street, we exhibited bands from Ny, Chicago, San Francisco, and Amsterdam, and celebrated St. Patricks Morning with Irish Music Night on Sunday. Without exception, the members of the their entourages and bands were thrilled about playing Austin and obtaining the possibility to be discovered by a maker or supporter, or found by a record label. One band member excitedly informed me that after their show, they were acknowledged to collaborate on an important movie soundtrack! At the very least all through SXSW, Austin could be the city where dreams can actually become a reality.

Up and down the 6th Street entertainment district and beyond, record executives examined their schedules and hurried from club to club, munching sliced barbeque snacks and checking out the artists, who ranged from audio singer/songwriters to outrageously-dressed and spikey-coiffed punks and rock screamers clad in their expected black garb.

Early one evening, a nicely dressed middle-aged couple approached me to ask if they can obtain a ticket for the show. You'll want a child performing, I smiled, since they were not at all your normal membership hopper. Normally, their son was playing, and the proud parents had followed him to Austin for the display and a mini-vacation completely from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. That time had been lovely, with the temperature hovering near 80, and we chatted for a while about their visit, and what they'd seen and done during Austin. The couple was modern in their praise and assured that next year they would be back for a longer holiday and would certainly be taking friends.

Later that morning, a woman from great BRITAIN dropped in to thank me for recommending Marias Taco Express, certainly one of the best places, and invited me to an personal celebration in a hotel penthouse regional.
