If your objective is to burn fat and lose weight there are far better ways of achieving this than by sweating it out on an elliptal machine.
This is because your body's fat burning potential is enhanced when the large muscle groups in your body are engaged in physical activity.
Therefore by doing specific strength exercises your body uses more calories as well as contributes to building lean muscle mass which in turn will boost your metabolism.
Once you are that level, where your body's metabolic rate has been increased due to the increase in lean muscle mass you will find that your body will tend to burn fat far more efficiently than just by doing elliptical trainer workouts or other cardio exercises.
